Task: You are required to write a Summary/Reflective essay that summarizes the main characteristics of early of “first generation” feminists arts in the United States. I would like you to choose one work from two different “first generation” feminist artists as your main examples (2 art works total). (Appropriate artists include; Ono, Kubota, Schneemann, Edelson, Mendieta and Sleigh.) Your essay should include a thorough discussion of “essentialism” in relation this artistic movement.
• Your essay should have an introduction that summarizes the socio-historical context women faced at the time and leads to a thesis that clearly articulates the movement’s main goals.
• The body of your essay should thoroughly analyze your chosen examples and relate them to the overall goals of the movement.
• Your conclusion should summarize the main points of your essay and include a thoughtful reflection on your informed views of the impact of the movement, including its successes as well as shortcomings.
